What is Chiropractic?
D.D. Palmer – Father of Chiropractic, performed the first Chiropractic adjustment on a partially deaf janitor in 1895. Palmer noticed a vertebra was out of position on the janitor, when asked what happened the janitor felt something give in his back 17 years earlier and that’s when he lost his hearing. Palmer then performed the first Chiropractic adjustment, the next day the janitor’s hearing was improved. Palmer developed a theory that spinal misalignment caused nerve pressure or irritation which in turn caused various ailments. He realized that the structure and condition of the body influenced how the body functioned and its ability to heal itself, without the use of drugs or surgery.
The Human Body
The nervous system consists of the brain, spinal cord, and nerves. Nerves act as a highway for information to travel throughout the body, and the spinal cord is made up of bundles of these nerves. The spine both houses and protects the spinal cord.
Nerve Dysfunction is damage to a nerve by a number of factors: fall, stress, overuse, underuse, accident, the list goes on. These events can alter our “highways” and create pain or discomfort in our bodies.
Diagnosis and Treatment
Dr. Ashton Begg is trained to locate the source of the pain or discomfort and many times it may actually be far from the actual location where the symptom is occurring. Once the source is identified, Dr. Begg will correct or adjust the joints in the body and set it up to heal on its own.
The type of correction or adjustment employed by Dr. Begg depends on the condition being treated. Chiropractic success occurs by addressing the source of the problem, not just masking the symptoms.1
Because helping the body heal itself involves many facets, Dr. Begg will also provide lifestyle advice to help prevent illness and injury including diet & nutrition and fitness to improve your overall health.
