Causes & Symptoms
Nine out of ten Americans suffer from headaches. Headaches greatly vary – some people suffer occasionally while for others they are a frequent occurrence. Pain from a headache can range from dull and throbbing to debilitating pain with nausea. There are many causes or “triggers” of headaches which can include: environmental (noise, lights, etc.), physical trauma, emotional stress, nutritional deficiencies, chemical toxins and neck and/or back subluxation (misalignment).
A majority of headaches are associated with muscle tension in the neck. Today, Americans engage in more sedentary activities than in the past, and more hours are spent in one fixed position or posture (such as sitting in front of a computer). This can increase joint irritation and muscle tension in the neck, upper back and scalp, causing your head to ache. Many Americans turn to medications to relieve their discomfort, unfortunately medications only mask the pain, it does not treat the source.
