Causes & Symptoms
Muscle injuries occur when damage is done to the muscle or joined tendons which causes pain, making movements with the affected muscle group difficult or painful.
Pulled, strained or torn muscles can be caused by a variety of factors:
- Manual labor at your job
- Slip or lose of balance
- Overexertion at the gym
- Poor posture
- Playing with children or pets
- Poor flexibility
- Lifting something in an awkward position
Symptoms of muscle injury include:
- Pain when the affected muscle group or joint is used
- Pain while your body is in a resting position
- Swelling, bruising or redness
- Weakness of the muscle or tendons
- Not being able to use the muscle at all
Treatment & Home Instructions
Muscle injuries treated at SOS Chiropractic focus on reducing any inflammation and working out trigger-points within the muscle fibers. After an examination and Range-of-Motion tests, some patients may require laser therapy, myofascial release or Kenesio Taping. The additional therapy, when necessary, is crucial to aid the affected muscle groups restore normal motion of joints that have been restricted because of muscle adhesions/imbalances, inflammation or pain.
Prior to leaving, many patients will be given instructions on certain activities or procedures to be conducted at home. This may include ice or heat application instructions, avoidance of certain activities or positions, as well as home exercises and/or stretches.
